En | "The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of supplying microminerals and/or selenium and vitamin B12 on the development and transfer of passive immunity in Holstein Friesian calves. Sixty Holstein Friesian calves, ranging in birth weight from 28 to 46 kg, were randomly divided into three groups according to birth weight (<36 kg and >37 kg); The microminerals supplemented group (MM <36 kg = n=10; MM >37 kg = n=10), selenium plus vitamin B12 supplemented group (Se <36 kg = n=10; SE >37 kg = n=10) and control group (CON <36 kg = n=12; CON >37 kg = n=8). The treatment in the groups was carried out as follows: group (MM) 1.5 mL of an injectable solution of zinc, manganese, selenium and copper; group (Se) 2 mL of an injectable solution of selenium plus vitamin B12; group (CON) 1 mL of physiological saline solution. These applications were carried out on d 0 and d 29 of life. The variables evaluated were: development, consumption, passive immunity transfer and health. Statistical analysis to estimate weight gain, height, concentrate consumption and refractometry was performed by ANOVA analysis and means were compared by Tukey's test. Diseases were recorded in all groups to determine calf health, only diarrhea and pneumonia were considered using a chi-square. The value of P < 0.05 was used to consider statistical difference. There was no significant difference in the total weight gain of calves born at <36 kg for MM, Se and CON was 35.0±1.9, 36.3±1.6 and 38.4±1.6, respectively; P>0.05. There was no significant difference in total height of calves born at <36 kg for the MM, Se and CON was 2.3±0.4, 2.1±0.1 and 2.2±0.1 cm, respectively; P>0.05. There was no significant difference in serum protein, at birth until the first 72 h of life in MM, Se and CON. On average all groups regardless of birth weight (<36 and >37 kg) started at 6.0±0.1, at 24 h increased to 7.4±0.1 (P<0.05) and ended in a range of 7.2±0.1 at 36 h (P>0.05). No difference was found between groups of the same birth weight range (<37 vs >38 kg; P>0.05). Finally, we observed 100% of some type of disease during the study period regardless of birth weight range (P<0.05). The use of microminerals and/or selenium plus vitamin B12 did not influence weight gain and passive immunity transfer in Holstein Friesian calves" | es_MX |
